Production-made special effects cape rig created for Superman, the first Christopher Reeve Superman film released in 1978. This rig was used during flying sequences to help support and move Superman’s cape. The rig was attached to his back by means of snaps near the top. The rig is made from two metal plates riveted and screwed together. There are four metal rods sandwiched between the plates, they are secured by screws and there is an attached aluminum strip securing and separating the rods. The plates are painted red and “C. REEVE” is written on one side in black ink. The rig measures approximately 43 ½ x 13 x 1 inches.
