Gorilla Soldier costume worn by a background actor in the 1970 science fiction film Beneath the Planet of the Apes. The film was the first sequel to the Charlton Heston classic The Planet of the Apes. It told the story of astronaut Brent, played by James Franciscus, sent to future Earth to find Heston’s character Taylor. Both men get caught up in a war between sentient apes, who are now the dominant sentient species on Earth, and a small group of mutated, mad humans. The costume consists of a vest, long-sleeve shirt, gloves, and bandolier. The production-made vest is made of dark purple vinyl, has painted black stripes, has a front Velcro closure, and says it is a size 44 chest on the Western Costumes tag inside. The shirt is made of a heavy purple cotton material, has three front pockets, and front button closures. The shirt was manufactured by Angelica and is a size 44. The production-made gloves are soft green cloth gloves with large cuffs that match the vest. The production-made bandolier is dark orange and has two brown faux ammunition pouches on the front and a metal clasp at the waist attached by a brown leather strap.
